The Salymedia consulting team has developed a comprehensive update of the five-volume encyclopaedia Uppslagsverket. This has been done for a publishing company in Helsinki for Swedish literature in just two months. Using a procedure developed by Salymedia, the more than three thousand pages of the printed encyclopaedia of Swedish culture in Finland were transferred into a modern internet application. Included are all texts, pictures, graphics and descriptions of the pictures and links. The basics for the internet application is the Twiki- Platform. Twiki is available as „open source“ without license costs. Compared with most Internet providers, it offers a number of advantages that result directly from various customer requests.

The Web layout of Uppslagsverket 2.0 has been adjusted by Salymedia in such a way that readers of the printed word will easily find themselves at home. There is also the familiar appearance and the comfortable search functions with which one can navigate more than 15000 articles. Operation is relatively easy and comparable with Wikipedia, the Internet encyclopaedia, which has become a much used information medium.

After only three days of training, the editors from Schildt were proficient in using the new system. A special feature of Uppslagsverket 2.0 consists of the fact, that a small team of editors, supported by a twenty member editorial board, is responsible for its publication quality.

Salymedia has therefore set up an appropriate authorisation and access procedure for this. The Project was presented to the Schildt Publishers in July. At the end of September, after the last update by the editorial department, Uppslagsverket 2.0 was made available to the public.

For those with interests in technology: The generation of Twiki data is converted to a suitable Internet form, which has been exported from the Pre Press Data. The pictures used in the book were converted into a suitable internet form and linked to the appropriate Twiki topics. References between the keywords were recognised and have been inserted as hyper links. www.uvf.fi
